Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need maternity or nursing bras? Why can't I buy fashion bras in a larger size?

Aside from the convenience of a bra made specifically for nursing, your breast size will increase while you are pregnant and nursing so you will need a bra that is larger than your normal size. More importantly, you will need additional support during this time. When your milk comes in, your breasts will be fuller and heavier and the added support of a nursing bra will also increase your comfort. Remember too, that you will need a little extra room for your nursing pads!

While providing the function we mentioned above, our nursing bras are divinely sexy. With delicate lace and embroidery, vivid colors and elegant styles, you don’t have to sacrifice your sexy look because you’re nursing.

How many maternity/nursing bras do I need?

As you start nursing, you will find that you will have to wash bras more often than usual. We recommend at least 3-4 maternity/nursing bras and matching panties to always have a clean and stylish reserve of lingerie available.

Do I need maternity panties?

"I just buy the same size I always have.“ “Why buy new panties? No one sees them. My old ones may not look as pretty, but they still work.“ Sound familiar? That could be why they’re riding up, sliding down, or bunching in all the wrong places. Do you know how panties should fit? Don‘t worry. We‘ve got the information you need to buy panties that will fit to perfection.

The waistband of your panties should never be so tight as to leave a mark on your skin. Panties that are too small will also ride up in the back becoming the most uncomfortable and preventable of panty problems, the wedgie. Panties that are too old or loose may droop and slide down, causing the second most uncomfortable of panty mishaps. If you experience either of these problems, you may need to purchase either a larger size or a new pair. When purchasing maternity lingerie, adjustable panties are the most comfortable (and practical) choice for your expanding belly and hip bones.

Panty legs should fit snug, but never bind or leave a mark on your skin. Fabric that is too loose will droop or bunch. Try a high cut style panty if you have trouble with tight leg fittings.  The panty crotch should fit against your body with no loose fabric in the front or back, nor should it be binding or ride up.

How do I care for my lingerie?

As with all delicate lingerie, we recommend handwashing or delicate cycle in the washing machine with cool water and regular detergent. No bleach or fabric softener should be used. Hang to dry.

Are underwire bras safe?

Most of our nursing bras are soft-cup (without underwire). Many lactation professionals recommend avoiding underwire bras while nursing because improperly fitted bras (especially underwire bras) can cause uneven pressure on milk ducts, leading to plugged ducts, mastitis and other problems. This is especially important when you consider the fact that so many women (up to 80%!) wear the wrong bra size! We encourage you to consult and follow our Sizing Chart to be sure you are purchasing correct size.

When should I buy my first maternity/nursing lingerie?
We recommend buying your maternity/nursing lingerie when you no longer fit into your regular bra and panties, which for most women is during mid- to late-pregnancy. It is not recommended to buy nursing bras during the first days of nursing when milk first comes in, and breasts are often engorged. This size is often larger than your normal size. Our Eve Alexander line of panties can be bought at any point as they are adjustable. You can wear them as your hipbones and belly expand during the latter part of your pregnancy and as they return to normal after delivery, so you will always look and feel great with matching bras and panties. Our hosiery, tanks, swimsuits, and sleepwear are made with comfortable stretch fabrics and flattering styles, and can be worn at any point during pregnancy and beyond!  Our collection will make any pregnant and new moms feel beautiful!
